Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is ranked the world’s 16th most liveable city in Monocle’s Quality of Life survey. It is behind Amsterdam but ahead of Seoul.
Helsinki earns its high global livability ranking due to world-class public education, a virtually crime-free environment, pristine infrastructure, and an extensive network of green spaces. The Finnish capital perfectly balances an innovative, tech-forward economy with a deep cultural emphasis on sustainability, wellness, and work-life balance.

Global indexes, such as the Monocle Quality of Life Survey, consistently highlight Helsinki for several key factors. One, mentioned by the Monocle correspondent, is public trust in the police, which stands at 92 percent.
With over 300 islands, numerous parks, and clean air, the city allows residents to easily escape into nature and enjoy a wellness-focused lifestyle.

But Helsinki so often undersells itself internationally. There can be a lack of the kind of confidence and bold storytelling displayed by rival Nordic capitals Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo.
