”As a designer, maybe I work with slightly more reduced forms and expressions than we’re used to seeing at Kosta Boda. For me, it’s important to go back to my initial impressions of Kosta Boda as an innovative, experimental company that accepts and even encourages experimentation and product development “on the floor” in the studio,” says Mattias Stenberg.

Regarding the Septum Vase (feature image, top) for Costa Boda, he says, “The outer forms of the vases must be simple and smooth, but inside there is an irregularity and playfulness that makes every single vase a unique individual. It was this notion of vibrancy and ‘structure’ within the outer walls of the glass that initiated the idea of the Septum vases.”
They are inspired by the Nordic glass art of the 60s and 70s.

This year, he has designed a series of blown-glass dishes for Orrefors. The collection comprises three plate-and-bowl combinations, each available in silver and with a distinct form.
The series draws on a personal starting point. Stenberg was inspired by a glass trivet from his childhood home, which he reinterpreted in blown glass.

The result is a group of pieces designed to be combined and layered — varying in height and size to allow versatile arrangements and practical use across different settings.
